African and Blacks Division

Looking at Africans and Black American's, it's safe to say there is a major divide amongst the two cultures. One stricking piece of information is black americans have created a whole new culture based on old teachings from their african ancestorys who were brought to the america's. Why is there a divide between the people of the same origin. Ive questioned myself all the time about it, and have yet to have a full understanding of the situation. Sad to say the media has portrayed both africans and blacks to be scums of the world and crazy wild uncontrollable individuals. Both Africans and Black american's do not full understand each other because of the constant stereotypes the majority of the population puts out in the media. We as a people need to re-unite and actually explore the lost cultures and restore the values that we have along with getting a better understanding each other. Because the bond we have is like none other,  black people connect on another level. So this is me reaching out to my fellow African bothers and sisters, teach me the ways of my ancestors. I want to know more about my people.

Family Life

I  was raised by a single black mother in different parts of the city of Springfield. Some parts goods and some parts flooded with crime rate. My mother always wanted the best for me so she tried her best to keep me away from the negativity. As a whole my immediate family is very close. With all of my uncles and aunts living in the same city for majority of my life. In the early years of my life me and my mom lived with my grandmother until I was about five years old then later we move to a three family household. My family had a love for exploring the afro-centric way of life, prizing the rich culture and African principles. My grandmother gave all four of her children names from the swahili language. Ayanna, Imani, Nangyway, and Kugichaculia or Kugi. Each of them having a specific meaning. Of my grandmothers children, my mother was the eldest and was influenced the most by my grandmothers ways. My name stemming from African origins also, Kamau; this name was taking from the middle name of my Uncle Nangyway. I believe it has Kenyan origins and means silent african warrior. I come from a middle class family with college graduates, starting with my grandmother and grandfather, my grandmother graduated from Spelmen College and my grandfather graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia were they met. My grandmother has her degree in nursing and my grandfather is apart of the FBI and also graduated from the national coast guard academy. You could say I have a lot to look up to along with my mothers accomplishments. As a family we celebrated Kwanzaa as our first holiday (me and my mom) But at my grandmothers house and everyone else's they celebrated christmas as well. Since my mother was apart of the nation of islam, the christian holiday wasn't to be celebrated.

First of welcome to my blog, the purpose of this blog is to share my idea's on success and what it means to me. Im a native of Massachusetts with my birthplace being in Springfield, MA. I live in a single family home with me, my younger sister and my amazing mother. I was raised by a single mother who has her a Bachelors in Psychology and Master's Degree in Education. So I come from a household of a college graduate. Unfortunately my father wasn't present for me life in Springfield since my mother and father are not together and he went his separate way. Im currently finishing up my first year of college at Wheelock College as a Communications and Marketing Major. As of now Im in the wonderful city of Boston. In my life before college I attended a charter school which I graduated from in 2012. During my high school career I was apart numerous varsity teams ranging from  Soccer, wrestling, and volleyball. As a student I was very much involved with extracurricular activities. So for instance I participated in what was called relay for life, which was a walk to support those who've suffered from breast cancer and or have had love ones suffer. My whole life I've always been the type to help and get involved. So my objective here for this blog is to share my ideas on success, success in the family and my personal experience.
